Prescription Cocktail Club

Inspired by the mixology bars of New York and London, nestled across candle-lit two floors in the ultra-chic district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés on Paris’ posh Left Bank, this prohibition-era speakeasy by the team of the Experimental Cocktail Club, Curio Parlor and Ballroom du Beef Club offers top-notch cocktails oozing with opulent, old-world class.

Slink in unseen via the Rue Mazarine laneway in the 6th arrondissement and step into another dimension — one where the barmen are charming, immaculately polished with crisp white shirts, black waist-coats and bow-ties, and absolutely talented in their craft — the clientele is trendy, attractive and ‘select’, and where discreet mischief is known to occur in the cosy nooks which make up the establishment’s sleek, low-lit library and plush upstairs lounge areas.

The décor here screams some sort of 007 meets 1920s Paris vibe, and the ambience and cocktails are dark, delicious — and dangerously good.

Think quirky, custom wallpaper, intermixed with exposed brick walls, a wooden counter, velvet couches, and lots of thick, brocade curtains, soft lighting and candles on tables to really get that cool vintage atmosphere going; along with a concise but creative drinks menu which changes with the seasons (as well as offering some traditional combinations like Old-Fashioned and classic Martinis for the die-hard purists).

Even those who would usually play it safe will be tempted to try some of the more original and surprising mixtures however — it’s a must — and just what the doctor ordered for an elegant night out on the town.

Those who dare to drink outside the box will be pleasantly rewarded —  and impressed — by the melody of rare alcohol, fruit juice bases and variety of aromas which the maestros at the bar will concoct with flair — some of the signature fusions dreamed up here have previously included beautiful experiments such as the “Japanese Purgatory” (Yamazaki 12, green Chartreuse, Benedictine, Laphroaig malt whisky ice cubes); and the “Gorilla in the Citrus” (whisky, citrus marmalade, freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice, egg white and flambéed orange zest).

In a nutshell — this hotspot is a grown-up’s hidden paradise, tucked away in the heart of the city, perfectly chilled yet always mysteriously inviting —  and laced with jazzy sounds on weekdays and DJs spinning funky beats on weekends, when the bar is packed with thirsty patrons.

So dress up, get out and go for a drink tonight — you’ll feel better for it — Prescription ticks all the required boxes for a classy affair to remember.

Perfect for: A first date, a sexy evening out with your partner, or a sophisticated debrief with fabulous friends.

What to order: Stick to your classic poison, or take a risk and ask the guys to whip you up something according to your own unique taste — these magicians know their way around a bar and won’t disappoint.
