Video, music, art — and bona fide fashion pedigree — have combined for this new nightclub named in honour of legendary performer Joséphine Baker, which has just launched in the heart of Paris’ Châtelet district, and it promises to be a huge hit.

Dubbed ‘Joséphine’ and sprawled over two floors in the recently restored Théâtre du Châtelet, this place is a swanky collaboration and the latest venture by Off White founder and Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh, in partnership with designer Ben Kelly — an award-wining interior déco wiz and one of the UK's most influential.

To boot — the venue has the backing of (and has been created by) Arnaud Frisch – the brain behind Silencio Paris – and has been ordained by Ruth MacKenzie, co-director of the Théâtre du Châtelet, so all bets are on that they (and we) are onto a winner here.

As featured in our Instagram story today, Bamao Yendé of Boukan Records will be taking the stage tonight.

If you haven’t heard of Silencio — don’t fret — it’s probably due to club's exclusive status. Getting in there can be a challenge for non-members (only members get exclusive access to the Art & Events and Cinema programming of the club, think: concert, film and art videos) and it’s known as the host and see-and-be-seen spot of many a label launch, film screening and FIAC after-party for those in the higher echelon and inner circle of the music, art & film biz.

That said —  it’s well worth trying your hand at getting into both Silencio and Joséphine during the winter months or otherwise — because, once you’re in, a night of entertainment, classy peeps and interesting conversation awaits, courtesy of its cultural and trendy fashion-set clientele.

As far as Joséphine specifically — it’s still fresh out the gate, but the down-low is this

  • The pre-opening night of the new club was held on Thursday, October 17, with the famous Konbini media playing;

  • It aims to rethink the experience of the classic nightclub, with a mixed video, music and art performance schedule;

  • It boasts a secret screening room and cocktail bar inside the revamped Grand Foyer, which juxtaposes the historic interiors of the theatre building with the new intervention; and.. ;

  • There’ll be a terrace on it, overlooking the Saint-Jacques Tower and the Notre-Dame Cathedral, no less.

That’s enough for us to put it on our Prêt to-do list, and suggest it to our readers too; so there you have it — new fodder for a drink, dancing and cultural fix on a Friday / Sat night! Voila! See you there :)

Perfect for: A trendy new weekend spot to check out with fashionista and/or music/film buff friends who are looking for a switch from Silencio. Also — dancing.

What to order: Drinks list isn’t available here yet, but cocktails are probably the ticket — chances are that they’ll be fairly pricey per pop though, so a petit heads-up there. Save your pennies for this one.
