When the cold snap sets in and you’ve had a long, tiring week at work — sometimes all you want for a Friday is a good glass of vino somewhere warm, cosy, and away from the crowds where you can meet a few friends for a chat with no fuss.

For that, this little wine nook — tucked away behind the iconic Marché Saint-Germain in the 6th arrondissement — is exactly what the doctor ordered, and offers comfort, class, a 300-strong quality wine list, with a carved marble fireplace to boot.

Throw in some low-slung couches, stylish décor with minimal finishings, and old stonework at the bar, all presided over by a beautiful glass roof; and what you have is a new favourite haunt for chilled evening out — courtesy of the Experimental Cocktail Club.

Already famous for their speakeasy’s such as the Curio Parlor and Prescription, the group turned their hand away from cocktails and towards corked bottles for this sleek venture, which has been such a success that it now boasts popular outposts in both London and New York’s SoHo district.

The original, in Paris — recognisable by its black-and-white striped awnings out front on Rue Lobineau — is still arguably the most charming of the three though, thanks the cobblestone streets its surrounded by and the dim-lit lighting from the lanterns of its host city, all which add a nice touch to the general ambience of the place.

It may not be ideal if you’re after a party — but what this place offers is a calm port to relax in, after a stormy 9-5 — and rumour has it that the bar staff even add a little extra via their mystery wine at €12: if the client can identify the wine, then they get the bottle for free!

Plus, they have quality finger food — think: truffle ham, mozzarella/truffle toasties, jamon iberico and scallop carpaccio — in case you’re peckish.

Perfect for: Chic catch-ups in a relaxed atmosphere with wine and friends when you clock off after a long week.

What to order: Red, White or Rosé — whatever your poison, take your time choosing it — there’s quite a selection on offer. To eat: go the mozzarella/truffle toastie — yum.
