When you’re on the move as much as we are, caffeine is a core part of the formula to keep you on point during the daily grind. This classy shop serves up one of the best cups in the French capital — so coffee connoisseurs, take note!
Founded by Aleaume Paturle, this cosy sanctuary on the Rue Marcadet in Paris’ 18th arrondissement is one of the best in the city, and has been voted as such since its opening in 2010 — steadily picking up awards for its green beans roasted to perfection on-site, right in the store.
This means you can also get a glimpse into what goes on behind-the-scenes here and learn the secrets of what makes a perfect cup, with all the machinery displayed at the back of the cafe — which makes Lomi not only a cool place to get a great cup of coffee, but also an immersive experience for those who want to discover more about what goes into their daily brew.
One of an increasing number of Franco-Australian collaborations which have popped up all over the city, Paturle has tapped Aussie barista Paul Arnephy — who won the Latte Art award for best artistic use of milk in coffee designs — to man the coffee machines, so from cold-drip to latte — and, of course, a cracking cappuccino — it’s pretty much a coffee-lovers dream. These guys are the masters.
Both travel extensively to visit coffee plantations and follow the seasonal harvests, importing beans from around 20 countries, which keeps the bean selection fresh and diverse — and you can even buy Lomi coffee beans online or in their shops, if you want to practice the art of coffee making at home.
If you don’t know where to start, there’s a Lomi school where they train professionals and individuals in the barista business, so there’s no excuse.
They also do food here — mostly sandwiches, salads and quiches — but its the coffee that really sings.
